Woodstock and Blenheim Palace

Woodstock and Blenheim Palace still give me a tingle when I drive in.  In Woodstock the houses are all squashed together, different heights and widths and brimming with character. Many very nice gift shops and cafes.  If you are feeling wealthy, try the Feathers and Bear Hotels, both hotels and restaurants of distinction.  The Tourist Information Centre is in the centre of town with informative and friendly staff to help you.

The Woodstock Museum Web Site

Set in beautiful surroundings in the heart of the historic town of Woodstock, the Oxfordshire Museum tells the story of Oxfordshire through 11 galleries and many exhibitions featuring history, popular culture, contemporary arts and crafts throughout the year.  There are often interesting sculptures displayed in the peaceful and calming gardens where you can enjoy a light lunch or afternoon tea.

Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and presently the home of the Duke of Marlborough, is the jewel in the crown and well worth a visit, again and again which is possible with their current offer of an annual ticket at no extra cost.

Witney

Witney is a charming market town, famous in the past for it's blanket factory.  Today it is a bustling town with markets on Thursdays and Saturdays.  A new shopping precinct was completed in November 2009, which includes Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and other high street names.  It also includes a new Cineworld complex showing the latest films, see the link for films and times.

The Corn Exchange at the centre of town often has performances of local plays as well as showing older and more interesting films with a homely atmosphere.

There are many restaurants in Witney catering for all tastes and pockets (see Eating Out below).
